ICWAI exam- The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India, previously known as The ICWAI is an exam which is recognized by the Indian government and registered under the Companies Act. This is a national level exam that gets conducted twice a year in June and December. Candidates need to register firstly for the course and go through the coaching and then for the examination separately. What is the ICWAI exam ?

ICWAI examinations are conducted by The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) which was previously known as The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants (ICWAI). ICAI was set up with an objective of promoting and regulating the Cost and Management Accountancy profession in India. It offers courses at different levels as mentioned below.

  • ICWAI Foundation course

  • ICWAI Intermediate course

  • ICWAI Final course

ICWAI admission process

  1. Fill the application form

Candidates have to fill the application form of ICWAI before the last date of each term. The candidates should check the eligibility criteria for each course of ICWAI before filling up the application form. The application form of ICWAI is available in online mode on the official website. Candidates have to pay the application fee for their course without which no application form is accepted by the institute. The application fee for each course is listed below.

  • Foundation course - Rs.1200

  • Intermediate course (1 group)- Rs.1200

  • Intermediate course(2 groups)- Rs.2400

  • Final course (1 group)- Rs.1400

  • Final course (2 group)- Rs.2800

The application fee can be paid in debit card/credit card/demand draft.

  1. Download ICWAI admit card 2020

The Candidates who registered and paid the application fee successfully can download the ICWAI admit card. The admit card is a mandatory document to be carried to the exam centre without the admit card he/she will not be able to attend the exam. The ICWAI admit card holds details of the candidate, about the exam and guidelines about the examination

  • The admit card will be available at least a week before the date of exam.

  • Candidates can get their admit cards in online mode at the official website.

  • To download the admit card, candidates need to enter their Registered ID and password for ICWAI exams.

  1. Attend the ICWAI exam

Candidates have to appear for the examinations as per the exam schedule for each course (mentioned above).

  • The exam dates and timings for each course will be mentioned on the admit card of the candidates.

  • The candidates can appear for ICWAI examinations at the allotted test centres only.

  • Candidates should report in their allotted test centres on time.

  1. Check ICWAI result

The institute will declare the results of ICWAI courses within 60 days after the exam date

  • The results will be published on the official website of ICWAI only.

  • Candidates can check their ICWAI results by login using their login credentials

  • Candidates securing minimum marks for each paper shall be declared pass and eligible for the next course or CMA graduate (after the final course).

ICWAI eligibility criteria

It is very important to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the ICWAI exam. Here we have listed the eligibility criteria of icwai.



ICWAI foundation course

Candidates must have passed Class 12th or equivalent from a recognized board of education.

Candidates passed in the equivalent examination under:

  • Central Government or National Diploma in Commerce Examination held by the All India Council for Technical Education

  • Any State Board of Technical Education under the authority of the said All India Council, or

  • The Diploma in Rural Service Examination conducted by the National Council of Higher Education

ICWAI intermediate course

Candidates must have passed a class 12th or equivalent examination and Foundation course of ICWAI or Graduation in any discipline other than:

  • Fine Arts/ Foundation (Entry Level) Part I Examination of CAT of the Institute

  • Foundation (Entry Level) Part I Examination and Competency Level Part II Examination of CAT of the Institute

ICWAI final course

The candidate should have passed standard 12th

  • The candidate should be a Graduate in any discipline except Fine Arts or equivalent

  • The candidate should have cleared all eight papers of CMA intermediate course

ICWAI exam pattern

ICWAI Foundation Course will have four papers.

ICWAI Intermediate Course will consist of two groups (Group 1 and Group 2) which will include 4 papers each (Papers 5-8) and (Papers 9-12)

ICWAI Final Course will consist of two groups (Group 3 and Group 4) which inclusive of 4 papers each (Papers 13-16) and (Papers 17-20).

There will be a total of 120 questions.

1 marks will be awarded for every right answer

The question will be based on MCQ(multiple-choice questions)

There will be no negative marking.

ICWAI application form

All the candidates that qualify the eligibility criteria can register for the exam.

  • The candidates should make sure that they fill in the application form completely and without any incorrection.

  • All the incomplete forms will be available to the students in the system for 30 days from the date of application release.

  • The candidates failing to fill the form within 30 days should know their form will be automatically rejected and deleted from the system database.

  • The candidates are required to fill all the important details such as name and address of the candidate along with the educational qualifications.

  • The candidates should also submit their scanned photo and signature in proper JPEG format.
